William Stewart Waschke Funeral services for William Stewart Waschke will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 13 at the Dove Creek First Southern Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Dove Creek Cemetery. William "Willie" Stewart Waschke left this life on December 8, 2014, in Monticello, Utah, at age of 84. Willie was born in Colorado Springs, Colo. on November 3, 1930, to William Edward and Frances Elizabeth (Stewart) Waschke. His mother traveled by train from Dolores to Colorado Springs, Colo. to be near medical resources for her maternity care. After his birth, she returned with Willie to the family homestead and farm near Dove Creek where he grew up. At the age of 18, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized and joined the Southern Baptist Church in Dove Creek. In January 1952, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War; where he was stationed at Fort Hood, and later Japan. When the war ended, Willie was honorably discharged from the Army in December 1953. He then returned home to work the family farm which he continued at until his passing. He worked for a short period of time in the uranium mines and the mill in Monticello, Utah. Then in 1957, he married Violet Dellene Flowers, celebrating 57 years of marriage. To this union were born three children, Bill, Mary and Neva. Later in life, Willie became a mail contractor and together with his wife carried mail from Dove Creek to Cortez. Willie was a very modest and humble man, who enjoyed spending time and visiting with his friends and family. He loved farming, raising animals, being outdoors on the tractor and taking care of his cows. When out in the community, he was always happy to see friends and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife, Violet of Dove Creek; son, Bill and Rhonda Waschke; daughter, Neva and Mike McCleary; grandchildren, Elizabeth McCleary, Michael McCleary, Brittany Waschke; his sister, Ann Flowers; and numerous nieces and nephew; as well as a multitude of friends. He was loved and will be missed greatly. Memorial contributions can be made in William Stewart Waschke's name to The Dove Creek Ambulance Fund, Dove Creek Fire Department or to the Dolores County Health Association.
