William R. "Bob" Cox

WILLIAM R. “BOB” COX Memorial services for longtime Dolores resident, William R. “Bob” Cox will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 28 at the Cortez First United Methodist Church. Reverend Lynn Evans will be officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Bob was born on November 28, 1923 in Hebron, Nebraska the son of William E. and Helen (Conley) Cox. He passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 80. Bob enlisted in the Air Force in 1942. Based in England Bob was the Captain, pilot of a B-17 and a member of the 91st Bomb Group. He flew 25 missions and was honorably discharged in 1945. He remained a member of the Air Force Reserve and held rank as Lieutenant Colonel. During his military career Bob met Joy Naramore in Roswell, N.M. On February 8, 1943 they were married. With this union two children were born. Bob spent most of his working career with Shell Oil Company as Marketing Director, District Manager and Manager of Customer Relations, retiring in 1987. On September 22, 1988 Bob’s wife, Joy passed away. He later married Anne B. McCabe on August 6, 1989 in Cortez. Bob was an active member of his community maintaining memberships with the V.F.W. and Kiwanis. Bob enjoyed fishing, golfing and tennis. Surviving Bob are his wife, Anne Cox of Dolores; his children, Ann Brown and husband, Doug of Dolores, and Tim Cox and wife, Laura of Bettendorf, Ia. He leaves his step-children, Colin McCabe, Katie McCabe, Tim McCabe and wife, Toni, Pat McCabe and wife, Lisa, John McCabe and wife, Lisa, and Bill McCabe and wife, Jodi; his grandchildren, Samantha Barbour and husband, Willie, Mitchell Brown, Sara and Ryan Cox; as well as his step-grandchildren, Michael McCabe, Ryan McCabe, Delaney McCabe, Connor McCabe, T.J. McCabe, and Lauren and Kristian Coles.
