WILLIAM PAUL SPITZER, JR. Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident, William Paul Spitzer, Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30 at the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge in Cortez. Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75 will be conducting Military Services. Paul was born on June 14, 1929 in Quinwood, W.V. the son of William Paul and Mary Rose (Burr) Spitzer. He passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2004 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home at the age of 75. Paul was educated in both West Virginia and Colorado. On June 14, 1951 Paul married Dorothy Ann Lepley. He was a member of the Rico Masonic Lodge, the Ute Mountain American Legion, and the B.P.O.E. Elks. Paul was an avid sportsman who enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, playing tennis, pool and all other sports. As a young man, Paul played for the U.S. Navy on their Semi-pro baseball team. Surviving Paul are his wife, Dorothy Spitzer of Cortez; his children, Donna Suckla and husband, Larry, Paulette Barlow and husband, Kevin all of Mancos, and Billy Spitzer and wife, Marti of Dove Creek; his grandchildren, Larry Don Suckla and wife, Julie, Rowdy Suckla and wife, Christie, Brooke Barlow of Cortez, Tegan Barlow of Las Vegas, Nev., Rikki Knuckles of Dove Creek, Brooke Ernst and husband, Dustin of Price, Utah, Casey Spitzer and wife, Courtney who is serving in the military in Germany, and T.J. Spitzer of Dove Creek. Preceding him in death were his parents. Memorial contributions can be made in Paul's memory to the Elks Scholarship Fund.
