WILLIAM KAY RASH Memorial services for lifelong Cortez resident William Kay Rash will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14 at the First Baptist Church in Cortez. Pastor Marvin Graves will officiate. Kay was born on November 17, 1930 in Dolores, the son of Charles Henry and Lois Irene (Plumlee) Rash. He passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at his residence at the age of 76. Kay graduated from Dolores High School in 1948. On April 24, 1954, he married Sally Ann Wheatland in Dolores. Kay was an active member of the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75, he was a retired member of the Cortez Volunteer Fire Department, and he belonged to the Cortez First Baptist Church. Kay loved to explore the outdoors. Time spent in the mountains hunting and fishing brought him much happiness. Surviving Kay are his wife of 52 years, Sally Rash of Cortez; his children, Rhonda Kay Monk and husband, Bud of Golden, Colo., Jeannie Ann Balfour and husband, Ron of Bloomfield, N.M., and Charles William Rash and wife, Cindy of Farmington, N.M.; his sisters, Carol Mariani of Amelia Island, Flor., Rita LeBlanc of Slidell, Louisiana, and Judy Lewis of Klamath Falls, Ore.; his grandchildren, Ryan Balfour, Steven Rash, Lindsey Balfour, and Brian Metz; and his great-grandchild, Christian Balfour. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Elaine Abadie and Harry Rash. Memorial contributions may be made in Kay’s memory to the Cortez First Baptist Church New Pastor’s Fund.
