WILLIAM JOSHUA ROUNDTREE Funeral services for former area resident William Joshua Roundtree will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 8 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Roger A. Gastineau will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday morning at the Ertel Chapel at 8 a.m. until services begin. Bill was born on March 29, 1915 in Wister, Okla. the son of John Wiley and Clara Lula (Armstrong) Roundtree. He passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 at the Olin E. Teague Veterans Administration Medical Center in Temple, Tex. Bill was 89 years old. A World War II veteran Bill defended his country while serving in the Army Corps of Engineers. He and his wife June were active members of Square dancing and Round Dancing in Uvalde, Tex. June was a school teacher in Uvalde for many years. Bill was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving Bill are his daughter, Rowena Gastineau and husband, Roger of Cedar Creek, Tex.; his step-children, Carla Ann Koppenhafer and husband, Gerald of Mancos, and Cleo Ray of Corpis Cristi, Tex.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren; as well as his brother and sister, Elvin Leroy Roundtree of Dolores, and Maxcine Retherford of Grand Junction, Colo. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, June Roundtree; and his son, Phillip Eugene Roundtree. Memorial contributions can be made in Bill’s memory to the Vista Grande Nursing Home.
