WILLIAM G. "BILL" FILENER Funeral services for lifelong area resident William G. "Bill" Filener will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Brad Holman will officiate. Military honors will be provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Visitation has been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Bill was born on November 18, 1929 in Crawford, Colo. the youngest of Frank and Alice (Hermance) Filener's eleven children. He passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at his Dolores residence at the age of 79. Bill ranched, logged, and worked in the construction business. He also worked for the Town of Dolores in the maintenance department. Bill served his country for two years in the U.S. Army as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict. He was a proud member of the American Legion. Bill was a friend to everyone and would always help a stranger. He loved to tell stories and listen to old country music. Bill enjoyed singing with his friends. "Dad" always made time for his kids or whoever needed anything. Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pauline Filener of Dolores; his son, Casey Filener and wife, Linda of Yellow Jacket; his daughter, Venita Kyle and husband, Glen of Cortez; his grandchildren, Shacy Filener and Cody Filener; and his sisters, Daisy, Beulah, and Octave. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Carl, Millard, John, Franklin, and Harvey; his sisters, Ethelyn and Velma; and his daughters, Juanita and Deniece.
