William Earl "Bill" Gibson

WILLIAM EARL GIBSON Funeral services for longtime Cortez resident William Earl "Bill" Gibson will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 7 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Bill was born in Fayetteville, Ark. on April 18, 1935 to Earl Bryant and Lillian Ethel (Gaskill) Gibson. He passed away at his Cortez home on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the age of 77. Bill graduated from Amarillo High School and then Amarillo College both located in Amarillo, Texas. Bill met and married the love of his life, Vada Yvonne Adams. The couple was joined in marriage on November 24, 1954 in Amarillo. In 1966 Bill and Yvonne moved their young family to the Cortez area in 1966. A member of Local 469 Plumbers' Union, Bill was a Master Plumber for 50 years and an asbestos consultant for better than 20 years. For a number of years Bill was active with the Montezuma County Sheriff's Posse. He, too, was a member of the Church of Christ and Cortez Elks Lodge. He loved to hunt and fish, time spent roping, skiing and trips to Lake Powell. Surviving Bill are his wife of 57 years, Yvonne Gibson of Cortez; his daughter, Rhonda Reynolds of Cortez; two granddaughters, Janae Biard Roithmayr and husband, Paul of Cortez and Crystal Reynolds Ruiz and husband, Tony also of Cortez; and by three great grandchildren, Brea, Bryn and Trey Ruiz all of Cortez. Also surviving Bill are his siblings, Bob Gibson and wife, Sue of Edmond, Okla., Ray Gibson and wife, Sue of Amarillo, Tex., Jean Hall and husband, Len of Colorado Springs, Colo., Deanie Phiffer of Mesa, Ariz. and Roy Gibson and wife, Edie of Colorado Springs, Colo.; by his sister-in-law, Melba Waddell and husband, John of Amarillo, Tex.; and lots of nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his son, Gary Gibson in 1993; by his parents, Earl and Lillian Gibson; and by a brother, Jim Gibson.
