WILLIAM CLINTON SMART Funeral services for lifelong area resident William Clinton Smart will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 20 at the Arriola Church of the First Born. Interment will follow at Arriola Cemetery. A visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Clinton was born on October 9, 1915 in Wheeler, Tex. the son of Wyatt Sanders and Euna (Robertson) Smart. He passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at his residence at the age of 94. In 1927, Clinton's family moved to Cortez from Texas. He met the love of his life, Lois Todd on his very first day of school. Clinton and Lois were married on October 25, 1936 in Yellow Jacket. Their love and deep devotion to one another was celebrated this past October marking 73 years of marriage. Clinton became an ordained Bishop in the Church of the First Born in 1956. From that point on he conducted many weddings and funeral services for families in the surrounding communities. Clinton loved to sing and play the guitar and harmonica. Family meant the world to Clinton, he enjoyed time spent with his loved ones and his church family. Surviving Clinton are his wife, Lois Smart of Arriola; his children, Carlene Case and LaQuita Cramer both of Arriola, and Kevin Smart and wife, Dorinda of Palisade, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Clinton was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made in Clinton's name to the fund set up at Citizens State Bank.
