William Allen "Bill" Lancaster On January 24, 2016 William "Bill" Lancaster passed away at the hospital in Odessa Texas. Bill grew up in the Southwest corner of Colorado near the town of Pleasant View out on the family farm where his parents, brother and four sisters spent their formative years. Bill was the fourth child and had great care provided him by his parents and three older sisters and dealt out that same kind of love and care to his two younger siblings. Bill learned about hard work and hard times while living out life in the 30's and 40's out on a dry land bean farm with his family. He also worked summers on the fire teams that responded to forest fires in the area. Through hard time and better times, Bill's parents always took the kids to church and instilled in them a deep conviction in God and the Bible. Bill held on to these lessons and has always been deeply involved in the churches in the towns he lived in. Bill enjoyed leading bible classes for both the young and the mature. Bill graduated high school from Cortez, Colorado and went off to Fort Collins where he attended Colorado State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation Bill moved to Odessa, Texas to work for Phillips Petroleum. After a short time with Phillips, Bill joined the Texas Department of Transportation where he worked his way to a position with responsibility of the highway designs for the State of Texas. Bill retired from the Highway Department in 1993 and moved back to his childhood state of Colorado where he and his wife, Donna, built their retirement home less than 10 miles from where Bill was born. Here they entertained many friends and family and built lasting memories with his grandsons hunting, fishing and doing "summer projects". Bill is survived by his wife, Donna and two children. Susan Hill of Midland, TX and Steven Lancaster of Dallas, TX, and a stepson Vaughan Varley of Scottsdale, AZ., two grandsons, Hunter Hill and wife Catie of Lubbock, and Garrett Hill of Midland, and one great-grandson, Logan Hill of Lubbock. A visitation will be held on Wednesday January 27th from 5:30PM to 8PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa, TX. Services will be at the Cortez Church of Christ, Cortez CO. on Saturday the 30th at 10 AM with interment following at the Sylvan Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort.
