Wayne A. Humiston

WAYNE A. HUMISTON Graveside inurnment services for Wayne A. Humiston will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22 at Cedar Grove Cemetery. A barbeque will follow the graveside service at Glen Humiston's residence 40334 Highway 184, Mancos. Please join family and friends for a time of fellowship and recollection. Wayne was born April 7, 1939 in Mancos the son of Everett and Lois Mae (Baker) Humiston. He passed away on April 22, 2013 at his Highlands Ranch residence at the age of 74. Wayne grew up on the family ranch in the Mancos Valley. He worked alongside his father and brothers with the farming and cattle operation. During his high school years, Wayne played football, basketball and baseball. He excelled at all three. He graduated from Mancos High School in 1957 and went on to attend Fort Lewis College. Wayne began his working years as a seismographer. He then was employed by AT&T, a job he devoted 30 years to before retiring as a second level supervisor. Wayne also contracted for the FAA for 17 years. Wayne was a member of Toastmasters and he coached Little League and football. He was a sports buff through and through. Wayne began his day with the sports page where he ingested as many sport related facts and stats as possible. He had an extensive knowledge in all sports and he could quote facts from many years past. Wayne and his wife, Phyllis had a cabin at Grand Lake. The couple made many wonderful memories in Grand Lake. Water skiing was one of Wayne's favorite activities while at the lake. Surviving Wayne are his wife, Phyllis Humiston of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; his children Viki Szeluga and husband, John of Mesquite, Nev. and Tim Humiston and wife, Lisa of Denver, Colo.; his grandchildren, Ericka, Lisa, Connor and Skyler; his brother, Glen Humiston of Mancos; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers, Gary Humiston and Paul Humiston; and by his step-son, Kent Hewitt. Memorial contributions may be made in Wayne Humiston's name to The University of Colorado Cancer Center Fund, 13001 E. 17th Place, Mail Stop F-500, Aurora, Colo. 80045.
