WANDA ELSIE LOYD Funeral services for lifelong area resident Wanda Elsie Loyd will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Pastor Anthony Maes will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Wanda was born on August 17, 1931 in McPhee, Colo. the daughter of Ira and Elsie (Spear) Dennison. She passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Aspen Gardens Assisted Living at the age of 77. Wanda was the third of five children born to Ira and Elsie. She attended school in the Cortez area when her family moved from McPhee. Wanda met and went on to marry Jack Loyd on August 2, 1947 in Gallup, N.M. To this union four children were born, Kathy Sue, John Monroe, Jack Michael, and David Kip. Wanda and Jack lived in Cortez and the surrounding area except for a short time when they lived in Walsh/Springfield, Colo. Wanda worked for some time at the Vista Grande Nursing Home and she was also a homemaker. She loved to spend time with her family in the outdoors camping and fishing. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family visiting and laughing. Surviving Wanda are her children, Kathy Chaffin and husband, Chan of Arriola, Mike Loyd and wife, Judy of Cortez, and David Loyd of Cortez and by her grandchildren, Rick Chaffin of Arriola, Jason Chaffin and wife, Marsha of Cortez, Litonya Chaffin and fianc, Russ Gillan of Las Vegas, Nev., Randon Loyd and wife, Kindra of Grand Junction, Colo., Ryan Loyd and wife, Nicole of Cortez, Genevie Echols and husband, Kevin of Provo, Utah, Jacob Loyd of Cortez, and Jeremy Loyd and wife, Julie of Yellow Jacket, Colo. Wanda also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Hailey Loyd, Cameron Echols, Caleb Echols, Rebecca Echols, and Sariah Echols; and her siblings, Leo Dennison and wife, Janet, and Rachel Johns. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Jack; by her infant son, John Monroe; by her brothers, Milton and Wayne Dennison; and by her grandson, Scott Chaffin. Memorial contributions may be made in Wanda's name to Hospice of Montezuma, P.O. Box 740, Cortez, Colo. 81321.
