WANDA ANN (BROWN) SCHAFER Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident, Wanda Ann (Brown) Schafer will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16 at Ertel Memorial Chapel with interment following at Arriola Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Wanda Ann (Brown) Schafer was born in Cortez, Colo. on July 3, 1944 the daughter to Goldie Mae Brown and Floyd James Brown. She passed away at her home on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the age of 69. Wanda was the third child of four children. Her siblings include two sisters Carol Jean Brown and Flossie Floydean Brown; and one brother, James Lynn Brown. When Wanda was around 10 months of age, her father passed away, leaving her mother to raise four small children. Later, Wanda lost her oldest sister, Carol, when Carol was just 13 years of age in a car accident near the Oak Street Bridge. Wanda was 5 years old at the time of the accident. Wanda was raised in Cortez and later married and moved to northern Colorado. Her family and faith led her back to Cortez with her husband, Gary William Schafer. Together they raised six children, and helped raise his three children. Wanda Ann Brown is preceded in death by her late husband, Gary William Schafer, her sister, Carol Jean Brown; her parents, Goldie Mae Brown and Floyd James Brown. She leaves behind her children, son, Darrell D. Carver, daughter, Carol Ann Gray and husband, Carl, son, Merlyn D. Carver, son, Brian K. Carver, daughter, Susan G. Carver, and daughter, Rebecca L. Kline and husband, Robert; 35 grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; three step children and seven step grandchildren.
