WALDEY HARRIS MIKKELSON “MIKE” Memorial services or Waldey Harris Mikkelson “Mike” will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 4 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Road M Chapel. Gravesite Dedication services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cortez Cemetery. Waldey Harris Mikkelson “Mike”, a devoted and valiant servant to our Lord and Savior, left this mortal existence on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 2:30 a.m. in Cortez. Waldey was at the home of his son, Michael Mark upon his passing. Present at this time were Michael Mark, his spouse, Debbie and Waldey’s daughter, Christi Nevius. Waldey was born on July 29, 1925 in Irene, S.D. to Roy and Hilda Mikkelson. Waldey grew up in Irene, S.D. where he attended school and worked very hard on the farm. A veteran of the US Army and during his time in the service he found the love of his life, Carol Jeanne Nevius, from Oklahoma. They began their life together in Oklahoma City, Okla. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa, Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They lived in several places before settling in the Panhandle of Texas where they lived for 25 to 30 years. While in Pampa, Texas they were blessed with two children, Michael Mark and Christi Nevius. Waldey worked in the oilfield in the Panhandle for many years and perfected his skills to become one the top welding inspectors in the country. He continued to work as an inspector on gas and oil line projects throughout the country, one of these being the Alaskan Pipeline. He and his wife moved from Perryton, Texas in 1974 to Cortez, Colo. and resided there until their passings. Waldey was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many positions throughout the years, one which included Branch President for Perryton Branch in Perryton, Texas and Bishop of Cortez First Ward in Cortez, Colo. Waldey had a wonderful sense of humor with a smile and twinkle in his blue eyes. He was full of goodness, honesty, faithfulness, and total commitment to his Lord and Savior; his spouse, Carol and family; his work, and associations throughout his life. He has faithfully waited four years to join his spouse, Carol. Waldey is now blessed by joining his eternal companion, Carol and previously deceased family members. We are blessed to know he is free of his illnesses and tribulations. We will miss him but know that we will be blessed in God’s time to join them all. Preceded Waldey in death were his father and mother, Roy and Hilda Mikkelson; brother, Van Mikkelson, and his eternal companion and spouse, Carol Jeanne. Remaining at this time to remember this wonderful man are his sister, Beverly and family; brother, Rodney and spouse, Lee and family; sister-in-law, Shirley and family all in South Dakota; his son, Michael Mark Mikkelson and spouse, Debbie and their three sons, Steve, Mark, and Travis and their families in Cortez, Colo. and Mona, Utah; his daughter, Christi Nevius Mikkelson-Bearss and spouse, Bud of Georgetown, Texas and their children, David, Melissa and Philip and their families all in Texas; and by six grandkids and 14 great grandkids.
