VOYD THURL “VT” BOYD
On October 31, 2023, Voyd Thurl (VT) Boyd passed away peacefully in his home in Cortez, CO at the age of 94. VT Boyd was born on March 23, 1929, in Mauldin Arkansas to Crawford Boyd and Vesta (Meeks) Boyd.
VT spent his childhood in rural Arkansas. In the year 1948 on the 29th of May, VT married his beloved wife, Elizabeth Pittman, and went on to have a life full of wonderful memories with her. In 1961 VT and Elizabeth moved to Cortez, then in 1962 they made the short move to Dolores. They shared 62 years of marriage with one another and raised their family, VT and Elizabeth had 4 children.
VT spent his entire life, starting from age 14 in the timber and lumber industry. VT established and owned Colorado Forest Products, B&H Builders Supply, Boyd Trucking, Escalante Lumber, that later became Choice Building Supply, and North Fork Lumber, as well as Sawmill Run Restaurant & Saloon.
VT went on to serve his community for 3 terms as Mayor of Dolores beginning in 1968. VT had an enormous heart, wonderful sense of humor and was full to the brim of wisdom captured through all his life experiences.
VT spent his days at his home away from home, Choice Building Supply where he managed to captivate hearts every day. His riveting smile, and quick wit kept everyone smiling and on their toes. People would stop in and sit with him out in front of the store, not one person ever left without a smile.
VT’s passions included traveling, camping, cooking, sports, and politics. His greatest adventures were with his family, he loved teaching all his grandchildren and great grandchildren the best fishing holes from the creeks in the Meadows of Colorado to the Lakes in Arkansas.
VT is survived by his daughter, Nina Larsen and husband, Bob, grandson Danny Cline and fiancé, Stacy, great grandchildren Kiana, Brady, and Kally Cline, granddaughter Kim Archuleta and husband, Alex, great granddaughters Madi and Codi Archuleta; by his son Thurl Boyd and wife, Connie, grandson Kirby Boyd and wife, Leah, great grandchildren Bailey and Braden Boyd; by his son Kevin Boyd and wife, Tina, grandson Eric Boyd and wife, Nicki, great grandchildren Jalen and Janae Boyd, granddaughter Brittany Chavez and husband, Freddy, great grandchildren Cameron, Taylor, and Kendall Chavez; and by his daughter, Tammy Black and husband, Bryan, grandson Jeff Black and wife, Alicia, great granddaughters Audrey and Jacey Black, grandson Chris Black and wife, Kelsie, great grandsons Nathan, Nokona and Barrett Black.
VT is preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth Boyd; father Crawford Boyd; mother Vesta Boyd; and his sisters Elouise Conway and Patti Parker.
VT Boyd (Poppa) will be laid to rest with his wife Liz on November 8th at a private graveside service.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elks Lodge on November 8, 2023 at 4:00p.m. for all to join.
