VONDA LEAN SMITH MAY Graveside services for Vonda Lean Smith May will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 13 at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mancos. Pastor Kent Slyter will be officiating. Visitation has been scheduled Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Vonda was born on June 11, 1939 in Magee, Miss. the daughter of James Layvon and Mady Kolean (Craft) Smith. She passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at her home in Farmington, N.M. at the age of 75. New Mexico was Vonda's home as she lived there for 60 years. In 1973 Vonda completed cosmetology school and went on to work as a cosmetologist for 26 years. In 1998 she added to her profession establishing Four Corners Vending Machines. Vonda was also an amazing gardener and loved to can the vegetables she raised. She was very proud of her family and loved them all very much. Surviving Vonda are her husband, Richard May of Farmington, N.M.; her children, Debbie Watson and husband, Eddie of Cypress, Texas, Lesia O'Sullivan and husband, Libert of Midland, Texas; seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren; her sisters, Susie Noland and husband, Frank of Mancos, Mary Pickens and husband, Gilmer of Mancos, and Judy Reider of Hesperus; and her brothers, Jack Smith and wife, Jeanne of Mancos, and Paul Smith and wife, Rhonda of Grand Junction, Colo. Vonda was preceded in death by her parents, James and Kolean Smith; one granddaughter, Lena Schnabert; and her two sons, Billy Markham and Bobby Markham. Memorial contributions can be made in Vonda May's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
