VIVIAN LORENE BRACKETT BREWER Funeral services for longtime Dove Creek resident, Vivian Lorene Brewer will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 11 at the First Baptist Church in Dove Creek. Interment will follow at Peel Cemetery. Visitation has been set for Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Vivian Lorene Brackett was born in Webb City, Mo. on April 6, 1918 the daughter of Roy Arthur and Lula Harriett (McNeely) Brackett. She moved to Colorado at an early age with her family. She married Clifford Brewer on Sept. 19, 1940 in Monticello, Utah. They were married for 65 years before her death on July 6, 2006 in Cortez. Vivian loved her neighbors and took joy in helping them out whenever needed. She was never one to turn away from a visit with them. She always had a soft spot for those in need, those who were downtrodden or down on their luck, and she defended the underdog whenever she could. She loved gathering her family together and sharing her skills as a cook. Her large meals were eagerly anticipated by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Having those she loved nearby and nurturing them by nourishing them brought her great joy, as did knowing that her daughter, daughters-in-law, and then her granddaughters followed in her footsteps. Many of Vivian’s recipes found their way into the homes of (so far) three generations and they still cannot cook unless they have Grandma’s formula for pie crusts, cornbread, noodles, or whatever. Those missing and loving her are Clifford of the family home; Virginia Bucher of Dove Creek, Jerry and Wanda Brewer of Grandview, Wash., Frank and Karen Brewer of Kansas City, Mo., Jack and Carol Brewer of Monticello, Utah; and ten grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
