VIRGINIA ROOT Funeral services for lifelong Towaoc resident Virginia Root will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 30 at the Towaoc Recreation Center. Interment will follow at Towaoc Cemetery. Visitation has been scheduled for Friday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Virginia was born November 22, 1939 in Towaoc the daughter of James and Effie (Hemp) Root. She passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 73. Virginia enjoyed attending revivals at church and traditional ceremonies. Attending pow wows were among her favorite activities. She excelled at beadwork and solving crossword puzzles. Virginia loved reading books, watching movies, traveling, playing bingo and going to the casino to play the slot machines. Surviving Virginia are her children, Karlita Knight and husband, Mamud Abaari of North Dakota, Zephen B. "Root" Turtle of Seattle, Wash., and Koonsman Knight and wife, Florence Duncan of Towaoc; and her grandchildren, Precious Collins and Trennie Collins of Ignacio, Colo., and JohnJames C. Knight of Bismarck, N.D. Virginia also leaves behind her nephew, Alfred Wall Jr. of Towaoc; her niece, Becky Root of Towaoc; her brother, Alfred Wall Sr. of Towaoc; and her aunt Jessie Root House of Towaoc. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; and by her siblings, Julian Root, Charlie Root, Steve Root, and Robert Root.
