VIRGINIA "GINA" FAYE PHILLIPS Funeral Mass for Virginia "Gina" Faye Phillips will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 1 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 28 E. Montezuma Avenue in Cortez. Funeral processions will then carry her to Lebanon Cemetery in Cortez where she will be laid in her final resting place. Visitation for Gina will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 29 at Ertel Memorial Chapel with Rosary Services following at 7 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Gina of Cortez passed away in her sleep in the early morning on February 26, 2012 surrounded by her family. Gina was born in Ada, Okla. on April 13, 1926 where she married her husband of 62 years, Ralph Phillips, on August 29, 1949. Together, with their two children Garland O'Neil and Elizabeth Jo, they traveled abroad and lived in England for a year, before returning back to the States in 1952 on the Queen Mary. In her earlier years, Virginia worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and as a Doctor's Assistant, but finally retired and worked alongside her daughter Jo in the family businessesThe Sawpit Store in Sawpit, Colo. and JJ's Halftime Lounge in Montrose, Colo. While living in Inglewood, Calif. Virginia enjoyed giving her spare time to the Inglewood Emblem Club #68, serving as the President from 1978-1979. Gina's greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Bascom M. Shanks and Emma (Eona) Shanks; and three brothers, Woodrow Shanks, H. O'Neil Shanks, and Bascom M. Shanks, Jr. She is survived by her husband Ralph of Cortez; her son, Garland O'Neil Phillips of Grand Junction, Colo.; her granddaughter, Glory Phillips Spurlock and husband, Aaron Spurlock of Ogden, Utah; her grandson, Ty Phillips of Albuquerque, N.M.; her daughter, Elizabeth Jo Phillips Hernandez and husband, John Hernandez of Cortez, her grandson, Jonathon Hernandez and wife, Tanya Hernandez of Flagstaff, Ariz.; her grandson, Mario Hernandez and wife, Lindsey Hernandez of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; her granddaughter Alicia Hernandez of Gilbert, Ariz.; and the following great-grandchildren, Ella, Emily, Lily, Anthony, Eric, Rylyn, Cruz, Harper and one more on the way!
