VIRGINIA ELEANOR MOSHER Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident Virginia Eleanor Mosher will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9 at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Pastor Vic Powell will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Monday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. The oldest child born to John Walter and Ida Matilda (Hamilton) Ertel, Virginia came into the world on November 6, 1917 in Denver, Colo. She passed away on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. While at a dance, Virginia met her future husband, Melvin Arthur Mosher. The couple was married on August 31, 1947 in Cortez. They shared many happy, loving years together until Melvin's passing in March of 1974. Virginia followed in her father's footsteps and was employed at Ertel Funeral Home as a secretary and bookkeeper. During her career she worked along side her brother, Walter Ertel and then her nephew, Keenan Ertel. Virginia's dedication and devotion to the funeral home was beyond compare. Her love of her job showed in everything she did. Virginia retired from the funeral home when she was 75 years old after 28 years of service to the community. Virginia was a member of Eastern Star and she attended the First United Methodist Church in Cortez. She was a vibrant person to be around. Friends and family knew that when encountering Virginia, a hug and a kiss would be shared. She loved people. Virginia's family was first in her life, she cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. Virginia was grateful that her family lived close enough that she could plan on daily visits from her children. In her free time, Virginia loved to dance, play the organ and cards. Surviving Virginia are her children, Johnny Mosher and wife, Shirley of Cortez, and Danna Raye Olson and husband, James of Lewis; her grandchildren, Ryan Mosher and Freedom of Cortez, Robbie Mosher and wife, Janet of Ignacio, Colo., Michael Mosher and wife, Tracey of Bayfield, Colo., Cory Olson and wife, Becky of Longmont, Colo., and Nikki Olson and companion, Michael Sanchez of Cortez; and her great-grandchildren, Sierra Mosher, Peyson Acree, Megan Olson, and Nathan Mosher. Virginia also leaves behind her siblings, Betty Dillon of Mancos, Jane Field of Quincy, Wash., Helen Ray of Cortez, Richard Lindsay of Cortez, Walter Ertel and wife, Bobby Jo of Cortez, and Don Ertel of Sunnyvale, Calif.; her sisters-in-law, Joyce Ertel of Texas, and Nora Mosher of Cortez; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John Walter Ertel; her mothers, Ida Ertel and Edna Ertel; her brother, John Ertel; her brothers-in-law, Richard Dillon, Marshall Field, Floyd Ray, and Ross Mosher; her sister-in-law, Nelda Lindsay; and many other loved ones.
