Viola Elaine Slavens passed away May 29, 2018 at Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez at the age of 89. Elaine was born in Hugo, CO on March 2, 1929 to parents Homer and Jesse (Crouch) Selbe, the first of six children. Elaine is survived by her son, Gary and his wife, Nova Slavens of Cortez; her granddaughter, Stacy and her husband, Shawn Wilson of Cortez; her great grandchildren, Kenyon Wilson of Grand Junction, Dashell Wilson of Vietnam and Wesley and Joey Wilson of Cortez. Also surviving Elaine are her sister, Lil and her husband Dave Cash of Fort Collins, CO; her sister-in-law, Daisy Mae Black of Cortez; her daughter-in-law, Sandra Slavens of Cortez; Sandys daughter, Karla Robson or Dolores; her nieces, nephews and her friends. Elaine graduated High School in Cortez. She and Dale Slavens were married December 26, 1946. Elaine soon became Mom to two sons, Leslie born in 1947 and Gary born in 1949. Elaine and Dale lived their lives and raised their boys at their home on Beech Street. Elaine stayed at home with the boys until the early 60s when she started working at Slavens, Inc. She worked alongside Dale and Dales parents Basil and Estie Slavens. Elaine was the bookkeeper and ran the accounting office for thirty years retiring with Dale in 1991. Over the years Elaine was very active in her church, in many organizations and clubs. She gave freely her time and herself. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, fine work of any kind, and reading. She loved the outdoors; boating, camping, jeeping, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, snow skiing, water skiing, snowmobiling and four wheeling. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dale; by her son Leslie, by her grandson Christopher; by her great granddaughter Baby Khloe her parents; her parents-in-law; her brothers, William and Robert Selbe; and by her sisters, Jesse Strigel and Anna Johnson. One word to describe our Mom would be complete. She was a petite lady with a great big beautiful smile. She loved God and had deep faith, she loved her family, she loved her friends, and she was so loved. She lived her life well. We will miss her.
