VERNON LEROY DUNN Vernon Leroy Dunn was born on December 26, 1920 in Springfield, Colo. the son of Alfred B. and Mattie Mae (Graham) Dunn. He passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at his Cortez residence at the age of 88. On December 20, 1947, Vernon married Barbara Lois Berggren in Mancos. Vernon served his country during World War II in the United States Marine Corp. The Marines were an important part of Vernon's life and he was extremely proud of his military background. Vernon was the manager of the aeronautical team that constructed the space shuttle launch pad at Vandenburg Air Force Base in California. In his free time, Vernon loved to golf. Surviving Vernon are his children, Robert Dunn of Cortez, Judith Dunn of Indian Hills, Colo., Elizabeth Wilson and husband, David of Littleton, Colo., and Lynn Soukup and husband, Mike of Cortez; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Helen Loyd of Craig, Colo., and Raymond Dunn of Greeley, Colo. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; by his loving wife, Barbara Dunn; by his daughter, Martha Lawrence; and by his sister, Clara Shelly. Cremation has taken place and services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 at Grace Episcopal Church in Georgetown, Colo.
