VERNA LaWAN LARD Funeral services for Verna LaWan Lard, 73 of Cortez, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Barr Chittick officiating. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Verna was born December 3, 1936 in Blue Hill, Neb. to Ernest Uhrick and Agnes Pauline (Bangert) Seeman. She passed away at her Cortez home on Saturday, September 4, 2010. Verna and her family moved to the Cortez area in 1951. She was a graduate of Cortez High School. Her parents were charter members of Trinity Lutheran Church, the church that Verna remained active all her life. Surviving Verna are her children, Barbara Jean Montgomery and husband, William of Cortez, Richard Rogers and wife, Karen of Ekert, Colo., Donna Jackson and husband, Tim of Henderson, Colo., Diana Woolery and husband, Trent of Clifton, Colo., and Melva Walker and Adam McDonald of Cortez; by four stepchildren, Ruth, Ralph, Randy and Rita; by a son-in-law, Wes Walker of Cortez; by her sister, Neoma Rohde and husband, Gerald of Grand Junction, Colo.; and by sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Joe Lard and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Tommie Lard. Also surviving Verna are 13 grandchildren, Jeff Montgomery, Tony Montgomery, Michael Rogers, Michelle Rogers, Bobby Rogers, David Rogers, Amanda Rogers, Steven Woolery, Terrah Woolery, Stephanie Axe, Brian Axe, Cassandra Brandon, Jeramey Woolery, Cody Rogers, Kathleen Walker, Kayla Roofe and Kolton Roofe; by 23 great grandchildren; and by her best friend, Linda Kingsley. Preceding Verna in death were her parents; her husband, Benjamin Ralph Lard; a son-in-law, Robert Woolery; great grandson, Eligh Montgomery; and a nephew, Larry Rohde. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Verna Lard with the Trinity Lutheran Church.
