VERA "MAXCINE" RETHERFORD Graveside inurnment services for Dove Creek resident Vera "Maxcine" Retherford will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the Sylvan Cemetery in Pleasant View. Maxcine was born in Brock, Okla. on June 12, 1924 to John Wiley and Clara Lula (Armstrong) Roundtree. She passed away on April 19, 2012 at her home at the age of 87. During World War II, Maxcine worked for Lockheed-Martin building P-38 Aircraft. Maxcine married Teddy Dilworth Retherford on October 13, 1945 in Aztec, N.M. They had six children and enjoyed traveling together. Maxcine drove a school bus in Alaska and in Pleasant View for thirteen years. In her spare time, she loved to read and crochet. Surviving Maxcine are her children, Karen Saiz and husband, Harold of Trinidad, Colo., Gary Retherford of Aztec, Richard Retherford and wife, Carol of Green Valley, Ariz., Janice Nichols and husband, Ron of Dove Creek, Keenan Retherford and wife, Debbie of Palmer, Alas., and David Retherford of Wasilla, Alas.; her 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Maxcine is preceded in death by her husband, Teddy Retherford; her parents, John and Clara Roundtree; her five brothers; and three sisters.
