VENITA WELLS RANSOM Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident Venita Wells Ransom will be held on Monday, October 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Lewis Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Lewis Arriola Community Center. Visitation has been scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at Ertel Chapel. Venita was born on February 28, 1920 in Yellow Jacket to Emory Owen and Fannie Francis (Retherford) Todd. She passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at her home at the age of 91. On December 25, 1938 Venita married Dorrell Omar Wells in Pleasant View. They enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage before his death in 1988. She later married Ray Ransom in 1990, he passed away in 2002. Venita was a member of the Arriola Church of The First Born. She was a devoted Christian and Bible study was very important to her. In her spare time Venita enjoyed ceramics, oil painting and gardening. She also loved listening to Christian music and writing poetry. Surviving Venita are her children, Glenn Wells of Cortez, his children Shawn Wells and wife, Kathy and their children Cody and Dillon Wells, and Dion Wells and wife, Alexis and their children, Jesse and Katelyn Wells, and Joyce Tanner and husband, Rodney of Cahone and her children, Russ Patten and wife, Rene, Rhonda Majors and husband, Chris and their children, Kalysha Manzo, Tatum and Josie Majors, Mitzi Peirce and husband, Brian and their children, Kyndahl and Bailie Pierce, and Brett Tanner and wife, Taylor and their children, Cooper and Brecklyn Tanner, and by her son, Verlyn's children, Angie Easter and husband, Frank and their children, Jesse, Austin and Samantha Easter and Jennifer Cordova and husband, Brandon and their children, Carson Wells, Gavin and Talaya Cordova; her sisters, Lois Smart of Arriola, and Berta Boyd of Pleasant View; her step-children, Terry York, Janet Knoedler and husband, Gerald, and Dale Ransom and wife, Mima; and her daughter-in-laws, Bobbie Wells and Debbie Kerns. Venita was preceded in death by her parents, Emory and Fannie Todd; her husbands, Dorrell Wells and Ray Ransom; her son, Verlyn Wells; her daughter-in-law, Betty Wells; and her siblings, Vernon Todd, Robert Todd, Kenneth Todd, Dale Todd, and Della Jean Herrmann. Memorial contributions may be made in Venita's name to the Lewis Arriola Community Center.
