VENITA MAE HILL Longtime Cortez resident Venita Mae Hill passed away at Vista Grande Inn on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the age of 86. She was born the daughter of William Frank and Verna Mae (Flynn) Brown on May 21, 1921 in Fowler, Kans. Venita graduated from business college in Colorado Springs and then made a career for herself as an Administrative Secretary in the banking industry. She married Woodrow Ralph "Woody" Hill on September 29, 1942 in Long Island, N.Y., sharing more than 61 years of marriage before Woody's death in 2004. Venita was a talented artist enjoying time spent painting. She was one of the founders of the Ute Mountain Artists Club. She also gave of her time to Meals on Wheels. Venita enjoyed the outdoors; picnicking, gathering wood and sight seeing. Surviving Venita are her three children, Lynn Hill and wife, Sally of Flagstaff, Ariz., David Hill and wife, Patsy of Dolores, and Linda Humphreys and husband, Frank of Cortez; and by five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woody; her parents; and by two brothers, Leonard and Lloyd Brown. Venita will be cremated with no services planned at this time. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Venita Hill to the Ute Mountain Artists Club, c/o Barbara Lynch, 17777 Road G, Cortez.
