VANCE C. MCCABE Graveside services for lifelong area resident Vance C. McCabe will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 17 at Summit Ridge Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. Vance was born on February 15, 1922 in Dolores the son of William R. and Lola Irene (Morrison) McCabe. He passed away on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 86. Throughout high school Vance was an extremely talented athlete. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. Vance was honorably discharged and received numerous medals and ribbons for his service to our country. Vance was an active member of the Elks and Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75. He was a hardworking man that enjoyed sports, ranching, animals and hunting. Surviving Vance are his siblings, Stanley McCabe and wife, Leona of Cortez, Mary Sloan of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Sheila Rogers of Durango; his nieces and nephews, Bill McCabe, Bob McCabe, Steve Rogers, Stan Rogers, Laurie Lynch, and Sharon Ressa; along with many other loved ones. Vance was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia McCabe and Coleen McCabe; and his niece, Patricia McHenry. Memorial contributions may be made in Vance's memory to the Ute Mountain American Legion Post #75.
