Troy Morgan Oliver

Troy Morgan Oliver was the 6th and last surviving child of Harvey and Gaither Oliver from a family of 9 children. While Troy had some health challenges in his later years, he attributed his longevity to hard work, clean living, and a supportive wonderful family. Troy was born in Ackmen, Colorado on November 19, 1932. He grew up on a farm helping his family and was driving the tractor by the age of 10. He was drafted into the army, and following his service he married the love of his life, Shorlene Herren, in the fall of 1957. Troy and Shorlene celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary just prior to his death. They initially settled in Arriola where their 3 children, Janet, Rick, and Rod were born, but moved to Goodman Point in 1965. The farm life suited Troy as he found satisfaction in growing and harvesting the results of his hard work.
Troy was exceptionally proud of his children. When each of the children married he treated his son-in-law Aaron, and daughters-in-law Kelly and Becky as equal members of his family. When grandchildren (Danna, Kenzie, Seager, and Parker) joined the family, Troy couldn’t have been happier. He loved doting over all of his grand kids, babysitting, and bragging about their successes. He felt most fortunate to welcome his first great-grandchild, Aubree, daughter of Danna and Matt into the family in June 2017.
Following retirement, Troy and Shorlene wintered in Arizona for 20 years, first in Yuma and then in Sun City West in NW Phoenix. Although they really enjoyed the warmer weather, opportunities to take daily walks together, and meet other retired neighbors, they missed the frequency of seeing their family. Consequently, visitors were always most welcome. Troy especially liked all of the citrus trees in the back yard as tending them gave him a sense of purpose and brought him back to his farming roots despite being in the city. In 2017, Troy and Shorlene decided to sell this second home and spend their remaining years at their Goodman Point home to consistently be close to the family they cherished.
During Troy’s later years, he spoke frequently about what a fortunate life he had led. He’d talk about what a wonderful wife and mother Shorlene had been, how they worked hard for what they had, and how much joy he derived from the successes of his kids and grandkids. Troy was one who lived the values and morals he believed in. He died at home, which was his desire, surrounded by the family he so loved.
There will be no public memorial service/celebration of life. Rather, Shorlene welcomes individual calls and visits.
