Thyra "Diane" Dawson Hurt

THYRA DIANE HURT

Thyra (Diane) Dawson Hurt was born on this day 84 years ago ,May 28, 1940 in Cortez Colorado to John Sherman Dawson and  Inez Ingeborg Vinger Dawson. She left this life on January 4, 2024 in Cortez. 

She spent her early years in McElmo Canyon, Dove Creek, Nucla and then settled in Cortez. 

Diane was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. 

If you knew Diane, you knew her passion for music. She had a remarkable talent for playing various instruments by ear, including the guitar, piano, accordion as well as others. Diane shared her musical gift with many performing at the nursing home her grandmother resided in, the Senior Center, Lakeview Grange, Shakeys Pizza  and various other venues throughout her life. She was always in a band having jam sessions in her home . Her children, lovingly referred to as her “brats”,  occasionally served as her setup crew from a young age. 

Diane's sense of humor was unmatched; bringing laughter and joy to those around her. She had a lot of anecdotes that could bring tears to your eyes from laughing.

Diane loved gardening. Every year we planted flowers in her front yard. She had competitions with her daughter to see who could grow the most beautiful Hibiscus. She had an amazing green thumb.

She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored spending time with, as she did during her final days.

Diane is survived by her children; Robert Sackett (Rabeha) of Temecula, CA, Melody Neely (Greg) of Fort Collins, CO, David Sackett (Natalie) of Cortez, CO and Debra Carver (Billy) of Menifee, CA. Her brother Duane Dawson of Chandler, AZ.  Diane was also blessed with 9 grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren, 2 Nieces and 1 Nephew. Diane was very blessed with a wonderful caregiver and friend, Dorthey Phillips, who took extraordinary care of her. She loved her like a daughter.

Diane is preceded in death by her parents,  husband Noble Hurt, and her sister Dixie Dawson.
