THOMAS REX "TOM" KERNS Thomas Rex "Tom" Kerns was born on February 8, 1942 in Paonia, Colo. the son of Glenn Robert and Kathryn Irene (Collins) Kerns. He passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 67. Tom was a graduate of MCHS in 1960. In the 1960's he moved to Nevada and began a career with Placer Dome Gold Mine. In later years he moved on to his own construction company and relocated to Cortez. Surviving Tom are his wife, Geri Anne (White) Kerns of Cortez; his three children, Joetta Jesse and husband, Swin of Kansas, Jeff Kerns and wife, Jenny of Nevada, David Kerns and wife, Debbie of Oregon; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Tom also leaves behind his three sisters, Roberta Kraehenbuehl of Westcliffe, Colo., Doris McComb and husband, Wayne of Kearny, Ariz., and Sue Whiteman and husband, Steve of Vernonia, Ore. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bob and Irene Kerns; by his brother, Buzz Kerns; and by his granddaughter, Natelle. Memorial contributions may be made in Tom's name to For Pet's Sake. Cremation has taken place and memorial services in Cortez are pending. There will be a memorial service for Tom in Elko, Nev. and the date will be announced.
