THELMA STELLA DUNCAN Memorial services for Thelma Stella Duncan, a lifelong resident of this area will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 2 at the Cortez First Baptist Church. Pastor Ron Horne will officiate. Thelma was born the daughter of Shelly and Mahaldale “May” (Stephenson) Reed at Yellow Jacket, Colo. on Jan. 28, 1918. She passed away at Aspen Gardens Assisted Living in Cortez on Sunday, May 29, 2005, at the age of 87. On May 1, 1937 Thelma married Roy Herren. He died June 20, 1941. Several years later Thelma married H.L. Duncan on Nov. 28, 1946. Together they shared 43 years of marriage before his death in 1990. Thelma was active with the Rainbelt Ladies and the Rainbelt Grange. She was very involved with the Baptist Church and Meals on Wheels. She loved yard work and after her move to town she found much enjoyment in her home. Surviving Thelma are her children, Shorlene Oliver and husband, Troy of Goodman Point, Colo., Marsha Cruzan and husband, Bob of Cortez, Frances Fulks and husband, Roger of Eckert, Colo., Joyce Halstead and husband, Bill of Las Vegas, Nev., Dan Duncan and wife, Norma of Yellow Jacket, Colo., Duane Duncan and wife, Nancy of Cortez, and Kathy Russell and husband, George of Burlington, Colo. 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; a sister, Velma “Babe” Black and husband, Pete of Durango, Colo.; and a brother, John Reed and wife, Esther of Cortez also survive Thelma. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Thelma Duncan with Aspen Gardens Assisted Living, 1200 N. Dolores Road, Cortez.
