Services will be held on June 8th at 2:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church (515 N Park St., Cortez, CO 81321) refreshments to follow in Fellowship Hall.Thelma “Sally” Cox, at the age of 100, passed away in the early hours of May 22nd, at her residence in Madison House. Sally was born to Thelma (Grim) and Joe Bohn of Addington, Oklahoma, on November 14, 1923. She spent her early years in Oklahoma with her siblings Charles, Nettie Rose, and Lina Lou. It is there she met and married Jonce E. Cox on May 30, 1941, eventually settling in Cortez. Sally and Jonce had three children Linda Wells (Glenn), Gloria Hamilton (Phil) and Rick Cox (Dianne).
While Jonce worked at Superior Oil, Sally enjoyed her work at Montgomery Ward. She and Jonce were very involved in the Sheriffs Posse and enjoyed their adventures and friends in the Jeep Club. She was very devoted to her church, the First United Methodist Church and its thrift store. She was so involved the dishwasher in the kitchen at the Church is named “Sally.” She was a talented quilter, making many beautiful and unique hand quilted quilts including one for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A talent she passed on to her daughters and several granddaughters.
Sally has been called daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, white-haired grandma, and even great-great grandma. Equally as important, she was known as a generous, kind and truly lovely Christian woman. She never said an unkind word nor judged anyone. It has been said that if God had an angel on earth, it was Sally Cox.
Sally is survived by her three children, five grandchildren: Kathy Anderson (Ben), John Norton (Michelle), Suzanne Hamilton TeKrony (John), Stuart Cox (Abby), Merideth Cox; nine great grandchildren: Jonathan Seely (Kayla), Austin Seely, Karlee Mattinson (Kevin), Ashley and Hailey Norton, Sophia and Annabel TeKrony, Amelia and Jonce Cox: and three great-great grandchildren: Colt and Annalise Seely and Karder Mattinson. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and two grandchildren, Todd and Dawn Hamilton.
Sally will be missed dearly but we are so grateful for the wonderful and long life she lived. The time she lived at Madison House was a blessing for her and the family. She enjoyed the residents and activities.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 1016, Cortez, CO 81321 or Hospice of Montezuma at P.O. Drawer 740, Cortez, CO 81321, in appreciation of the compassionate care they provided to Sally and the support for her family.
