TEX WARD Memorial services for longtime Cortez resident, Tex Ward, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Tex was born March 5, 1938 in Hereford, Texas the son of Edward Odell Ward Sr. and Winnie Rose (Hughes) Ward. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the age of 69. On July 13, 1959, Tex married Carole Sears in Durango. Tex owned and operated WW Roofing for 40 years. He was a dedicated member of the MCHS Booster Club and he devoted 25 years coaching kids in the local Little League program. In his free time, Tex enjoyed hunting, camping, baseball, sports in general, and most of all, his grandchildren. Surviving Tex are his wife of 48 years, Carole Ward of Cortez; his mother, Winnie Ward also of Cortez; and his children, Mark Ward of Cortez, Craig Ward of Farmington, N.M., Laurie Colbert and husband, Marcus of Buckeye, Ariz., Brian Ward and wife, Laurie of Inverness, Fla., and Dug Ward of Durango. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Sara and Austin Ward, Crockett and Cassie Colbert, Chelsea and Haylea Ward, Blaine Odell and Tucker Ward; and his siblings, Joan Gupton and husband, Arlen of Longmont, Colo., Jean Ragan of Antlers, Okla., Texie Young and husband, Darrel of Cortez, Phyliss Mollohan of Cortez, Rosalee Hamilton and husband, Ted of Dove Creek, and James "Rocky" Ward and wife, Karna of Cortez. Tex was preceded in death by his father. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Tex Ward to the Southwest Colorado Youth Baseball, 33 S. Market Street, Cortez.
