A Celebration of Life for Steven Eugene "Steve" Steele, Cortez resident since 1969, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 11 at Steve and Lyla's residence, 7060 Road 22.6, Cortez. All of Stevie's friends and family are welcome. Steve was born October 11, 1955 in Sherman, Tex., the son of Bill Eugene and Barbara Lynette (Renfroe) Steele. He passed away on October 7, 2015 at Southwest Memorial Hospital, Cortez. Steve married Lyla Jean Cox on November 12, 1977 in Mancos, Colo. Steve began his career in the oil field at 16 years old, his career spanned 44 years. In his free time, Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working with his hands building things. Steve thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors. His grandchildren were the light of his life and he liked drinking Budweiser with his dog, Duke. Steve is survived by his wife, Lyla of Cortez; his children, Patrica Franz (Marty) of Maricopa, Ariz., Jeffery Steele (Brenda) of De Forest, Wis. and Billy Steele (Jessa Olsen) of Rifle, Colo.; his siblings, Debra Miller (Fred) of Bolivar, Mo. and Terry Steele (Jennell) of Big Piney, Wis.; and his grandchildren, Austin Salazar, Abbigail Salazar and Alexia Steele. Steve was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made in Steve Steele's name to Cortez Fire Protection District, 23 N. Washington St., Cortez, CO 81321.
