Stephen Weatherford Gregory was born in Glendale, California June 4, 1945, but grew up in Evergreen, Colorado, the son of John Dalby Gregory and Vera Ruth Weatherford.
Growing up, he worked several jobs to help the family while he was in high school which included working at the golf course in Evergreen as a caddie. There, he developed a lifelong love for golf. He worked in a bakery making rolls before school and washing dishes at a restaurant after school. He lettered in football and wrestling. Also, during his high school years, he found Jesus Christ as his savior and continued in the faith all his life. In 1963, he graduated from Evergreen High School followed by 2 years of college at San Bernardino Valley College in California and working for Kaiser Steel. During that time he lost his beloved mother to cancer.
He moved back to Colorado in 1965 to study at the University of Colorado where he majored in Chemistry and received his BS in 1970. During that time he worked full time for Sundstrand in Boulder and later Coors Porcelain in Golden while still pursuing his degree. Steve married Diana Hush in 1967, also from Evergreen. After graduation, they had their first child, Shawn Patrick and made their home in Tracy, California where Steve worked for the Holly Sugar plant. They moved again in 1971 to Worland, WY and again to Torrington, WY where he continued with the company for two more years. In Worland, their second child, Kelly Gina, was born.
In 1973 Steve moved his family back to Colorado where they made their home in Denver and Steve worked first for the Bureau of Standards in Boulder and then for Lange Ski Boot in Broomfield. Here he developed materials for ski boots. After Lange Ski Boot moved to Italy, he began his own business as a Chemist testing water and waste water as well as plating baths. This became his lifelong career. He loved the challenges and always faced them with a can-do attitude and an innovative approach.
After their son and daughter graduated from high school, they remained in Denver another ten years where their son began a business of his own and their daughter received her degree. In 2000 they moved from Denver to Jefferson, CO in South Park. Steve continued his work as a chemist for another upstart company during which he traveled all over the country and to Mexico and Indonesia where he helped in devising solutions for waste water treatment systems. He later retired in 2010.
In 2015, they moved to Cortez, CO following their son and daughter who had moved to Cortez during the late 90s. Their two granddaughters, Ava and Ellie, were born in Cortez and Steve enjoyed his remaining time all being together in one place.
