Stephen Doyal Staggs

Stephen Doyal Staggs, resident of Cortez, Colorado, passed away in his home on September 26^th of 2023. Stephen was born May 10th of 1965 in Denver, Colorado to Terry Staggs and Elizabeth Doyal. Most of his life was lived in different areas of Colorado as well as Arizona.

Stephen had a kind and passionate soul, and as anybody who knew him was aware, he was also the first person to stand up in defense of somebody he loved. He always had a sparkle in his eye when talking about the things that he loved, and boy could he go on! Stephen was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to spend time river rafting, fishing, rock hounding, and biking. He was also a big fan of music, especially anything with a good guitar riff! He spent his time at home working on his hobbies, which included playing guitar, as well as refurbishing them, cars, rock polishing, movies, and making things. He always had one project (or five!) that you could find him working on. He was never at a loss for something to be excited about and loved to spend time with friends and family talking about anything and everything. Despite all his interests, his biggest reason for living was his family. He had an abundance of love for the people closest to him and was always bragging about his kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews.

Stephen is preceded in death by his father Terry Staggs, his brother Terry Christopher Staggs, his grandparents on both sides, his daughter Jessica, his wife Susan and most recently his mother Elizabeth Klock. Surviving Stephen are his son Christopher Staggs and daughter-in-law Jadie Graham, his five grandchildren Skylee Lindsey, Celacia Stewart, Chloe Staggs, Rowan Staggs, and Soren Staggs, all of Cortez Co. His four sisters are Denise Young of Dove Creek Colorado, Carol Muzzy of Dove Creek Colorado, Brandi Kreps/Willett of Dolores Colorado, and Becky Haun of Dove Creek Colorado. His stepdad Ed Klock of Dove Creek Colorado and his Uncle Ben and Aunt Barbara Doyal of Dove Creek Colorado, numerous nieces and nephews, and a plethora of friends.

Stephen always said that when it was his time, he wanted everyone to come together to celebrate his life. He will be greatly missed and we would like to invite family, friends, and anyone who knew him to join us in the celebration of his life on Sunday, October 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Lewis Arriola Community Center for food, laughs, tears, memories and goodbyes or see you laters. Bring a side dish or just bring yourself and join us in Celebrating Stephen's life!
