STEPHEN RAY MCDONALD Memorial services for long time Cortez resident Stephen Ray McDonald will be held Thursday, May 12th at 11:00 am. The service will he held at Lifeway Baptist Church, 601 N Dolores Rd, Cortez, CO. Steve was born July 31st, 1952 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, the son of Perry and Bonnie McDonald. He passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, May 7th, 2016. Steve started working for his dad, Perry, at the young age of 12 operating heavy equipment for his construction company. After Perry sold his business, Steve was a supervisor for Atkinson's Construction. Later Steve and his family moved to Phoenix and he was a self employed truck driver. When he and Judi moved back to Cortez he owned a local body shop before retiring. Steve enjoyed living life to the fullest. He could often be found tinkering in his shop on his latest car or truck project, snowmobiling at the family cabin, hunting, water skiing in his younger years, but most of all spending time with his family and friends. Many times his grandchildren tagged along to help him. No matter what, he could always bring a smile through teasing and joking. Steve leaves behind his loving wife, Judi of 45 years of marriage. Steve was a devoted father, husband, and friend who was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Steve is survived by wife, Judi; son, Jeff (Tracy) McDonald and daughter, Sara (Troy) Popplewell; along with five grandchildren, Brianna, Alexandria, Reilee, Cole and Ethan; one great grandchild, Ellie; his sister, Terri (Meryl) Higgins, and many nieces and nephews.
