STELLA MARIE WEST Funeral services for lifelong area resident, Stella Marie West will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 29 at Ertel Memorial Chapel with Rev. Al Strauss of Cortez First United Methodist Church officiating. A service of remembrance will be conducted by Order of the Eastern Star. Interment will follow at Cortez Cemetery. Stella was born the daughter of Claude Henry and Carrie May (Wyatt) Wilson on May 14, 1916 in McElmo Canyon, Colo. She passed away at Vista Grande Inn on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the age of 91. An active community member, Stella was a member of Eastern Star and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was a successful business woman, working for Basin Bank, and as a telephone operator. In her later years she was a real estate broker with her second husband, Walt West. Surviving Stella and her nephews, Kelly Wilson and G.W. McCutcheon both of Cortez; nieces, Janice Benton of Cortez, JoAnne Hanna of Grand Junction, Colo., Anne Brown of Cortez and Sue Hassell of Arvada, Colo.; by five step grandchildren and numerous step great grandchildren; and by sisters-in-law, Helen Ray of Cortez and Annabelle Wilson Rowe of Riverside, Calif. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward McCutcheon in 1961 and by her second husband, Walter West in 2000; by her five brothers, Glen Wilson, Claude H. Wilson Jr., Charles T. Wilson, Roy Wilson and Ray Wilson; and by her niece, Janet Caughey. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Stella West with First National Bank of Cortez.
