Stanley Morrison Mccabe

STANLEY MORRISON "STAN" MCCABE Funeral services for lifelong Dolores resident Stanley Morrison "Stan" McCabe will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 21 at Lighthouse Baptist Church. Pastor Andrew Reed will officiate. Cremation will follow the funeral service. Stan was born on June 26, 1920 in Dolores the son of William R. and Lola T. (Morrison) McCabe. He passed away on Monday, February 16, 2009 at Vista Grande Inn at the age of 88. Stan graduated from Dolores High School and then attended Colorado State University. On July 15, 1942, Stan married Leona Grace Gawith in Cortez. Together they shared ranching life; Stan was a devoted cattleman his whole life. He was named a Life Member of the Southwest Cattlemen's Association as well as serving as President of that organization. Stan also served as a Montezuma County Commissioner, held a seat on the Dolores School Board and served as President of that board. Surviving Stan are his wife of 66 years, Leona McCabe of Dolores; and his sons, William "Bill" McCabe of Tucson, Ariz., and Robert "Bob" McCabe of Cortez. He also leaves behind five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his sisters, Sheila Rogers of Durango, and Mary Jim Sloan of Anaheim, Calif. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Patricia "Tish" McHenry; and his siblings, Vance McCabe, Patricia McCabe, and Colleen McCabe.
