STANLEY EDWIN BREWER A celebration of life for Stanley Edwin Brewer will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 1 at Ertel Memorial Chapel followed by graveside service at his family plot in the Cortez Cemetery. The Rosary service will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 31 at Ertel Chapel. Stanley was born on January 17, 1914, in Topeka, Kans., the son of Fred Elsberry and Nettie Viola (Harriman) Brewer. He passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2006, at The Valley Inn in Mancos, Colo. at the age of 92. Stanley spent his childhood years in Missouri, then a short time in South Dakota before moving with his family to homestead on Squaw Point southwest of Dove Creek, Colo. During the Depression he was in the CCC's and worked on Mesa Verde and other local projects, while helping his parents develop their homestead. He then went to work on a ranch near Mullen, Nebraska where he met the love of his life, Regina L. Neal. This was the classic cowboy meets and marries the rural schoolteacher. They were married June 11, 1937 and purchased their farm on Squaw Point in 1938. Both Stanley and Regina moved to The Valley Inn from their beloved farm on April 5, 2006 leaving their son, Jerry to maintain the family farm for the present. Stanley is survived by his wife, Regina; children, Neal Brewer and wife, Sharon of Flemington, Mo., Barbara Jackson and husband, Dan of Arrey, N.M., Betty Bovee of Cashmere, Wash., Regina Schaus and husband, Mark of Waseca, Minn., Jerry Brewer of Dove Creek, Colo. and Palmer, Ark., Nancy Schultz and husband, Lewis of Cortez, Colo.; brother, Lloyd Brewer of Karnes City, Tex.; 24 grand children, many great and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as many special family friends. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Francis, Daniel and Donald; grandson Brian Brewer; and his brothers, Robert and James.
