Stanley Douglas Hindmarsh

STANLEY D. "POPS" HINDMARSH Stanley Hindmarsh passed away on April 22, 2015 after a lengthy stay in the Vista Grande Inn Nursing Home under great care. He was born in Cortez, Colo. to Doug and Arlene Hindmarsh on August 7, 1933. Stanley graduated from MCHS in 1951. In July of 1966 he married Mary Shackelford and they spent the next 45 years together. From their union he left behind his step-daughter, Carol Shackelford; his step-grandson, Lonnie Hensley and wife, Karen; their two children, Stanley's step-great-grandchildren, Nathan Hensley and Hayley Hensley; his step-granddaughter, Kim Russell and husband, David; their three children, Stanley's step-great-grandchildren, Duston Russell, Jarod Russell, and Khrysta Woody and husband, Rodney; and their three children, Stanley's step-great-great-grandchildren, Evan Woody, Jaida Woody and Rylee Woody. Also surviving Stanley are his nephew, Keith Hindmarsh and wife, Alesha; and their three sons, Stanley's great-nephews, Bradley Hindmarsh, Dalton Hindmarsh, and Logan Hindmarsh. Stanley spent his entire life running sheep, cattle and farming hay. He spent tenure on the board of MVI during the construction of McPhee and the Towaoc Canal. He also sat on the board of the BLM for SW Colorado and Grazers. He loved his land and cherished the time he spent in the mountains at his cabin. "Stanley was known as my Grandpa but to me I felt as though he was a father. He was a tough man who taught me everything that he knew. He always had a story about some place or something no matter where we were. I will always cherish the memories. I will miss him very much!" Love, Lonnie "I am so thankful for having Pops in my life. He was very giving and was always there for our family. He supported our kids in whatever they chose to do and was always so proud of them. He loved them very much. Our family has been so thankful to live in his childhood home with all of his memories and now ours. The times that meant so much to him were spent in the mountains at Ground Hog at his cabin with friends and family. He had many stories to tell and we will always remember them.
