Sidney Hammond Powell was born to Captain T and Marylee Powell, both deceased. Sidney went home to be with his wife, Irma Powell, on July 22, 2022. Sidney was born March 26, 1930 in Bradlay, AR and moved to Cortez with his parents and his three sisters, Adella Powell, Joyce Sleven, Blanch Thompson, and three brothers, Ed Powell, Junior Powell, and Evan Powell. Sidney joined the Army November 4, 1950 – 1952 and was stationed in Japan. His rank was Sergeant.
What Sidney enjoyed the most was family gatherings and his dog, Blackjack. Sidney loved to stay busy. He was a perfectionist no matter what the task. One of his favorite hobbies was poker. Over the years the men and women he played with gave him the nickname “The Old Dog” which they called him every time he would win a hand. He loved playing gospel songs on the harmonica, bowling league, fly fishing, and watching baseball. Sidney married his wife Irma Roe Powell November 25, 1952.
Sidney is survived by his children, Brent Powell (Elaine), and Roxane Armstrong (Grant); six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Sid will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
My Dad In Heaven
They say there is a reason
They say time will heal;
Neither time or reason
Will change the way I feel.
Gone are the days
We used to share.
But in my heart
You are always there.
The gates of memories
Will never close; I miss
You more than anybody knows.
Love and miss you everyday
Till we meet again
Always & Forever
