Shorty Phillips

SHORTY PHILLIPS Graveside services for lifelong Aneth resident, Shorty Phillips will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7 at Cortez Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening at Ertel Memorial Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Shorty was born December 1, 1925 in Aneth, Utah the son of John and Louise (Begay) Phillips. He passed away at Southwest Memorial Hospital on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the age of 85. Shorty loved horseback riding, taming horses, and ranch work which also included herding sheep and cows. He was a member of the Native American Church. Surviving Shorty are his children, Richard Phillips, Dorothy Phillips, Theresa Phillips, Charles Phillips, and Howard Phillips all of Aneth, Utah Grace Phillips of Rock Point, Ariz. and Ida Phillips also of Aneth, Utah; and seventeen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Shorty was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou (Lansing) Phillips in 2006; and by his siblings, Tony Phillips, Ida Crawford, Mary Lansing, Woodrow Phillips, and one additional sister. Memorial contributions for Shorty Phillips may be made to his memorial fund in care of Ertel Funeral Home, 42 N. Market St., Cortez.
