Shirley Monrow Floyd

SHIRLEY MONROW FLOYD Shirley Monrow Floyd was born February 11, 1930 in Burnet, Tex. the son of Willis Monrow and Chesna Victoria (Nelson) Floyd. He passed away at his Cortez home on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the age of 84. Shirley married Billie Faye Turman in Andrews, Tex. on March 15, 1949. He worked as a carpenter for 62 years and upon his retirement he followed his first love as a horse racing trainer. At age 79 when Shirley had to hang up the reigns he had trained horses for 40 years. Surviving Shirley are his wife of 65 years, Billie Floyd of Cortez; children, Darlene Floyd Johnson and husband, Larry of Dolores, Carlene Cline and husband, Dennis of Dolores and Patricia Schmidt and husband Kit also of Dolores; by nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; and by his brother, James W. Floyd of Texas. Shirley was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Loriee Dayton and Ruth Berry; and his brother, Raymond Floyd. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
