SHIRLEY MARDELLA WHIPPLE Funeral services for longtime Mancos resident Shirley Mardella Whipple will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Mancos First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Pastor Craig Paschal will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. at Ertel Memorial Chapel. Shirley was born July 5, 1929 in Bay City, Wis. the daughter of Raymond William and Martha Margarite Elizabeth (Bolland) Hanson. She passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Valley Inn Nursing Home at the age of 88. Surviving Shirley are her children, Howard Whipple Jr. of Erda, Utah, Sharlott Thomas (Tom) of Mancos, Dennis Whipple of Bellflower, Calif., Catherine Yost (James Helmer) of Mancos, Darla Whipple-Frain (David) of Wichita, Kan., Julie Shepherd (Holland) of Santa Fe, N.M., Rosemary Spraker (Lesley) of Lorton, Va., Connie Seader (Robert) of Poulsbo, Wash., and Michelle Strohn of West Valley City, Utah; by her 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and by her sister, Bonnie Bystrom of Machesney Park, Ill. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Howard Norman Whipple; by her children, Norman Whipple and Marvel Whipple; by her siblings, Vernon Hanson, Gladys Mitchell, Lorraine Murphy and Ruby Johnson; and by her daughter-in-law, Jeri Whipple.
