Shirley Jean (Lown) Wolcott was born November 16, 1935 to Paul Hackett Lown and Margaret Caroline (Moorehead) Lown in Ceresco, MI (Calhoun County).
Shirley grew up and went to school in Hillsdale, MI. On May 30, 1954 she married LeRoy R. Wolcott. They were married for almost 50 years at his passing. They had four children. Shirley loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved camping, fishing, bingo, reading, and square dancing. She was an avid Granger and Red Hats Lady. She loved going to her boy’s sporting events.
Shirley worked in several nursing homes prior to working at Oaklawn Hospital for 32 years, retiring in 1998. After retiring she worked at the Tekonsha Café where she enjoyed visiting with the customers. In 2008 she met and partnered with Lyle Clapper until his passing in 2011.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Wolcott; her partner, Lyle Clapper; her daughter in law, Evie Wolcott; her grandsons, Shawn Wolcott, Chad and George Geer; and her brother, Norman Lown. She is survived by her four children, Michael Wolcott and wife Carol of Tekonsha, MI, Carolyn Wolcott and partner Harold Geer of Cortez, CO, Myron Wolcott of Constantine, MI, and Keven Wolcott and wife Kathy of Hillsdale, MI; 19 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; her sisters, Patricia Britton and Peggy Monroe; her brothers, Jerry Lown and wife Leigh, and James Monroe; and several nieces, nephews, and family.
Services are pending at Fort Custer National Cemetery and will be held at a later date due to COVID-19 restrictions.
