Sheila Ann Aspromonte

October 28, 1938 — January 19, 2018

Funeral Mass for longtime Mancos resident Sheila Aspromonte will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, January 26th at St. Rita Catholic Church. A Rosary has been scheduled for Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church. Sheila was born on October 28, 1938 in Durango, the daughter of Richard and Regina Gallavan. She passed away on Friday, January 19th at the Valley Inn nursing home at the age of 79. Sheila initially completed her LPN certificate and briefly worked as an LPN prior to marrying Dominic R Aspromonte on June 25, 1960 at St Columbus Church in Durango. Following the birth of her third child, she attended Fort Lewis College for elementary education. She began teaching at Mancos Elementary School in 1975. Sheila taught for over 20 year during which time she also obtained her Masters degree from Adam State College. Sheila was a wonderful cook, known for her contributions to pot lucks, her cakes at the school, and her turkeys for funeral dinners. She was a long standing communicant of St Ritas where she shared her art for arranging flowers. As Sheilas health declined she continued to take joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving Sheila are her children, Tina Aspromonte Weiss and husband, Kip of Mystic, CT, Tony Aspromonte and wife, Vicki of Mancos, and Gayla Aspromonte of Beech Grove, Indiana. Sheila also leaves behind her grandchildren, Courtney Dumont of Rhode Island and husband, Trevor, Ray Aspromonte and wife, Tiffany of Mancos, Brittany Kiphart and husband, Chad of Salado, Tex., and Natasha Spencer and husband, Rick of Maricopa, AZ; her great-grandchildren, Chauncey and Tinsley Aspromonte ; Kyleigh and Kellan Kiphart; and Parker Spencer; and her sister, Rita Lee of Durango. Sheila was preceded in death by her son, Mark Andrew; her spouse, Dominic Aspromonte; and her siblings, John Gallavan, Patrick Gallavan, Richard Gallavan, Katherine Hahn, Margaret Baird, and Regina McCrory. Memorial contributions may be made in Sheila's memory to the Mancos Hose Company #1, PO Box 145, Mancos, CO 81328.
