SHAWN G. GALEY Memorial services for Dolores, resident, Shawn G. Galey will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Stone Church, 1012 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, Mo. Her nephew, Duane Qualls, Elder of Community Church of Christ in Independence, Mo. will officiate. Shawn was born on February 18, 1918 in Aurora, Mo., the daughter of Ira Hickman and Lula Mae (Flowers) Qualls. She passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the Valley Inn Nursing Home in Mancos, Colo. at the age of 88. Shawn’s career landed her in the middle of the radio industry. She was an acclaimed radio personality for KIMO radio station in Independence, Mo. She kept the listening audience aware of the latest events in the social world of Independence. Shawn stayed with the radio station until it was bought out by Bing Crosby; he had changed the format and she was ready to move on. In 1981, life took Shawn to California. From there she moved to El Paso and to Dallas, Tex. She moved to the Summit Ridge area in 2001 and stayed there until her passing. Shawn was a very creative person, she took up painting in 1986 and had also written a couple of manuscripts that she never submitted. Surviving Shawn are her children, Wendell Timothy “W.T.” Galey of Raymore, Mo., Beth Lynn Galey Orr and husband, Berry of Dolores, Colo., Michael Wayne Galey and wife, Kay of Grandview, Mo.; her 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Shawn in death were her parents; her husband, Wendell M. Galey; her daughters, Elizabeth Leah (Higgins) Cavitt, and Patricia Ann Galey Matthews; one grandchild; and her six siblings, Raymond, Wayne, Carl, Veda, Faye, and Fern. Memorial contributions may be made in Shawn’s name to the American Cancer Society. Flowers may be sent to 13321 Palmer, Grandview, Mo., 64030.
