Senovio T. "Sonnie" Gustamantes

Memorial Mass for Cortez resident Senovio T. “Sonnie” Gustamantes will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango, CO. Father Douglas Hunt will officiate. A Rosary will be held at the church at 6 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2019.
Sonnie was born June 18, 1939 in Tunnie, NM the son of Richard M. and Genoveva (Trujillo) Gustamantes. After the early death of Genoveva, his father married Sue Vigil who was a very special woman in Sonnie’s life. He passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old.
Sonnie was a hardworking man, a Sheep Shearer by trade and sheared for over 60 years until he was 78 years old. In 1965, he married his wife Presella (Samora), and was married for 54 years. They shared four children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving Sonnie are his spouse, Presella Gustamantes of Cortez, CO; his children, Debbie Foster of ND, Rick Gustamantes (Jolynn) of Mesa, CO, Raquel Sutherlin (Brady) of Durango, CO, Zenida Slowman of UT, Peggy Ramos of CA, and Jimmy Gustamantes of CA; his siblings, Beatrice Lopez of Dolores, CO, Raynaldo Gustamantes of Albuquerque, NM, Richard Gustamantes Jr. of Roswell, NM, Jack Gustamantes of Roswell, NM, Felipe Gustamantes of Roswell, NM, Veronica Macias of Roswell, NM, Lisa Medina of Roswell, NM, Frank Gustamantes of Roswell, NM; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. Sonnie was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Sonnie Gustamantes; his daughter-in-law Leslie Gustamantes and his sister, Patsy Herrera.
