SARAH P. GOMEZ Funeral services for lifelong Cortez resident, Sarah P. Gomez will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27 at the St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Father Derrek D. Scott will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Cortez Cemetery. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Sarah was born on April 17, 1920 in Blanco, N.M., the daughter of Jose Antonio and Manuelita (Valdez) Lucero. She passed away on Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Vista Grande Nursing Home. Sarah was 84 years old. Sarah was a hard working woman who was also a dedicated homemaker. She ran a foster home for 28 years. Sarah ran a restaurant, worked at the Southwest Memorial Hospital, and taught arts and crafts in Towaoc. Sarah’s children, Martin Gomez and wife, Brenda of Caballo, N.M., and Marguerite Vagnino and husband, Tony of Avondale, Ariz.; and foster son, Andrew Gomez survive her. She leaves three grandchildren; and her sisters, Cirila Martinez, Mary Ann Martinez, Lupe Martinez, Irene Martinez, and Louise Evilisor. Preceding Sarah in death were her parents; her husband, Martin Christopher Gomez; her baby sister, Lisaida Lucero; and two brothers.
