SANDRA ALICE "SANDI" WATKINS Sandra Alice "Sandi" Watkins was born on April 8, 1942 in Cortez in the old Johnson Hospital. She was the daughter of Frank Albert and Beulah Roberta (Veach) Sagrillo. She passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at her Dolores home at the age of 67. Sandi was raised in the Montezuma County area, where she met and was happily married on June 2, 1960 to Eugene Garry Watkins for 49 wonderful years. Sandi spent her working years as cafeteria cook for Dolores School District. She was known as a great bread maker. Sandi also worked for Mountain Gravel weighing trucks and years working on the small farm owned and operated by her husband and herself. Sandi also devoted her time to working with Boy Scouts, Little League Baseball and other school activities. She was a devoted Christian and looked forward to being with the Lord and his beloved son Jesus Christ. She is loved by many and missed by all. Sandi enjoyed time spent farming, beading, working the computer and crocheting. She was an expert at off-loom beading, crocheting and developing new recipes. Sandi had a fondness and gift for telling stories of yesterday, recalling times, places, people and events with wonderful detail. She was an avid genealogy person, keeping records for members of her family on both her mother and dad and Gene's mother and dad's families. In 2007, Sandi made Afghans for all of her grandchildren that she made for them with love. Sandi attended school at many area schools, but graduated in 1960 from Dolores High School. Her father had graduated in 1925 from Dolores as had many other family members including the love of her life, Gene and her two sons, Clark and Curtis. Gene and Sandi were married in the United Methodist Church in Dolores. To this union two sons were born, Clark Eugene and Curtis Dean. Each gave Sandi her beloved grandchildren, Jacquelyn the oldest, Amber the second born, Scott the third born, and the fourth born was Brittani. Sandi also had an extended grandson named Ryan. Those surviving Sandi are her beloved husband, Gene; her son Clark, his companion, Amy and her children, and Clark's daughter, Jacquelyn; and her son, Curtis and his wife, DonnaGene "DD", and their three children, Amber, Scott and Brittani. Sandi was not a person to fuss over herself and thus chose to exit this world quietly with no memorial service. Rather, she asked that you remember her in your own special way and to carry with you the thought that your love and friendship were what made her every day worth living. In lieu of flowers, Sandi asked that if so desired, gifts be made to Hospice of Montezuma. Sandi wanted to thank each and every caregiver that helped during her illness. Also, she wanted to thank the Montezuma County Health Department, especially Penny. A special thanks, as well, to the Dolores Fire Department and the staff of Southwest Memorial Hospital for the care she was given by all. Sandi's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Montezuma and all friends and family. The most special people are her family who has made her life one of great happiness; a life filled with true love, care, and compassion daily; her husband that she loved more and more each day as they grew toward a life together in their twilight years.
